Portraits | 2004
I began this portrait series in the summer of 2004, which was my first foray into the genre. I hit the streets of Crown Heights, Harlem, the East Village, and the Bronx with my Rolleiflex camera to take portraits of whomever I met. I took photographs of barber shop patrons, mechanics, street musicians and more. This process taught me a lot about approaching strangers and building the rapport necessary to work together for a few moments. I want to thank photographer Joseph Rodriguez for his guidance and mentorship with this project.
